Would you rather walk across broken glass barefoot than give a 20 minute speech? Maybe your fear and dread are not that bad, but you may be among the 85%+ Americans that fear public speaking.
 
Here are three tips that will help you overcome your fear and dread of giving a speech or presentation.
 
Tip #1: Prepare well
 
Preparing and practicing your speech can cut your fear by up to 79%. Many will ask me, “How do I prepare?”
 
Start with writing it out word for word or using a detailed outline. Next, practice with the OMD technique which I teach in “Speak with Confidence: How to Conquer Public Speaking Fear with 4 Simple Steps.”
 
You’ll find your confidence builds. Also, once you start into your speech the fear will run for the exit.
 
Tip #2: Relax
 
How do you relax when your body is pumping adrenaline through your system and your knees are shaking? Do some breathing exercises and a few other techniques.
 
You can relax the body and take full control. Experienced speakers will use different relaxation techniques moments before they go on stage.
 
Tip #3: Pause for 15 seconds on stage before you speak.
 
This a truly advanced public speaking tips that is very powerful. As you look at three different people during those 15 seconds, the audience will hush. Your body will start to calm down.
 
As a bonus the audience will lean forward in expectation of what you have to say. It may feel like eternity, but it will help you overcome your public speaking fear.
